chielliniGoalscoring hero Giorgio Chiellini admitted that Italy are targeting an extraordinary achievement at Euro 2016, following their 2-0 defeat of Spain on Monday.

Chiellini opened the scoring in the first half for the Azzurri, and is keen to point out that the players are hopeful of building on this historic win when they take on Germany on Saturday.

“This is only the start,” a jubilant Chiellini told Sky Sport Italia. “The fun starts now.

“We managed to remove some of the pain from Kiev and Vienna today. Spain have been a bit of a problem team for us in the past and they saw that we had something to prove.”

Admittedly frustrated that the team could not kill the game off in the first half, Chiellini was evidently grateful for the presence of Juventus teammate Gianluigi Buffon.

“We should have ended the game earlier. In the last few minutes there was a bit of suffering but we had an absolute saint [Buffon] playing behind of us.”
