darmian florenziAhead of Italy‘s Euro 2016 quarter-final tie against Germany, Alessandro Florenzi has revealed the desire among the squad to win the tournament.

The Azzurri secured an excellent 2-0 victory over reigning champions Spain to set up a match with the current world champions, and a fixture that has always provided entertainment in the past.

“Italy against Germany is a match that speaks for itself, there is no need to find any motivation,” Florenzi said at a press conference on Wednesday, where Lorenzo Insigne also spoke.

“The facts speak for themselves: they are the world champions and they have confidence, a confidence that they will win game after game.

“We know it will not be easy, but we want to win [the tournament] for all of us and the fans.”

Past fixtures between these two sides include the Euro 2012 semi-final and the legendary 2006 World Cup semi-final, both of which Italy won.

Florenzi also addressed the departure of coach Antonio Conte at the end of the tournament, who will move on to face new challenges in the Premier League with Chelsea, saying the 46-year-old can look back on his time on the Italy bench in a good light.

“The coach has brought his tactical and technical knowledge, but also a strong personality,” he added. “He has done a great job for Italy.”
