Leonardo Bonucci believes the togetherness of this current Italy squad is one of the main reasons for their success so far at Euro 2016.
Following their 2-0 defeat of Spain on Monday afternoon, Bonucci expressed that the mentality of this current squad is unique at international level, and that has been key to their progression to the quarter finals.
“We have become really close as a group and that is key to us reaching this stage,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia after the match. “This is not just any selection, we are a united group all paddling in the same direction.
“We believed that if we played our way then they would be in trouble. Our preparation was perfect and I can barely remember seeing a Spanish side so distressed.”
After reflecting on the triumph, Bonucci was quick to turn his attention to Saturday’s meeting with Germany.
“Today, we took care of business,” he added. “Now we need to recharge our batteries and prepare for the next challenge.”
