Diego-Lopez-AC-MilanWith Marco Amelia’s contract expiring earlier this summer, Chelsea have once more turned to Italy to add depth to their goalkeeping department as they look set to sign AC Milan‘s Diego Lopez.

The former Real Madrid stopper was displaced by the then 16-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma last season in Milan’s starting XI, leaving him frustrated on the Rossoneri bench.

According to Gazzamercato.it, the player’s agent met with the London-based club in the English capital last week, where an agreement was reached.

Unlike Amelia, however, Lopez will likely be the second choice ‘keeper at Stamford Bridge, as opposed to third, with Asmir Begovic reportedly looking to push a move to Everton through in the coming weeks.

The Champions League winner joined Milan in 2014 on a free transfer, and had impressed during his first season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, however, a disappointing start to the 2015-16 campaign saw Sinisa Mihajlovic change a number of players in his team, with Lopez being just one to suffer.
