conteDespite losing to Germany in a friendly a few months ago, Italy coach Antonio Conte believes that the squad has improved since then.

The Azzurri were beaten 4-1 by Die Mannschaft for the first time in over 20 years in March, however many changes have been made since then and the Italian boss is optimistic that the result will not be the same.

“I do not know if the gap between us and them has been bridged, they have grown so much but we also learnt a lot from that loss,” Conte told the press.

“We were soundly defeated and they were the world champions, but facing them again will give us a big incentive.

“Let’s see if the gap has enlarged or reduced.”

The Italians would book a Euro 2016 semi-final place should they beat the Germans on Saturday night in Bordeaux, with either France or Iceland awaiting the winners.
