GilardinoEmpoli have brought in a new striker for the 2016/17 season as they have bought Alberto Gilardino from fellow Serie A side Palermo.

Gilardino moved back to Italy last summer after spending some time in China and will now transfer to Empoli as they look to secure their mid-table position following a 10th place finish last year.

As announced on the Azzurri’s official club website, the 34-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the Stadio Carlo Castellani until the end of June 2018.

The Italian World Cup winner managed 11 goals and two assists in 34 appearances in Serie A and the Coppa Italia for Palermo last year.

Gilardino has had a glittering career since he turned professional in 1999, most notably with AC Milan with whom he won the Champions League, while he also has a Chinese Super League winner’s medal to his name.
