There are promising signs in the Italy squad as Daniele De Rossi has trained with the side ahead of their clash with Germany on Saturday.

After defeating Spain 2-0 in their round of 16 clash, the Azzurri face old rivals Germany for a place in the semi-final against either hosts France or surprise package Iceland, but Antonio Candreva and De Rossi both had injury worries recently.

Candreva has since been ruled out of the tie, but La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that 32-year-old De Rossi has been making progress on the training field since the victory over Spain and could start on Saturday.

He missed Friday’s morning session of training but coach Antonio Conte can remain optimistic as he took part later in the day, and the 46-year-old will need his services if at all possible following the suspension of fellow midfielder Thiago Motta.

Should De Rossi not be picked, however, there are several other players who could fill that role, such as Marco Parolo, Stefano Sturaro and Alessandro Florenzi, all of whom have appeared for Italy in Euro 2016.
