Italy coach Marcello Lippi has been named as a possible candidate for the Belgium job, after previous boss Marc Wilmots left.

The 47-year-old was fired after a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign which saw Belgium be knocked out by Wales in the quarter-finals, after going into the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

According to Belgian daily Dernie’re Heure, Lippi is one of the targets that the Royal Belgian Football Association are hoping to bring in to coach The Red Devils, as they claim he has the right criteria for the job.

Lippi won the 2006 World Cup with Italy and returned four years later to lead the Azzurri in South Africa, however they were knocked out in the group stages.

He has also taken charge of Inter, Napoli and Juventus during his career, while also having a two-year spell outside of Italy with Guangzhou Evergrande.

Other candidates for the Belgium post include former Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal, who is close to being appointed.
