cigarini atalanta icardi interLuca Cigarini has completed a move away from Atalanta in order to join fellow Serie A side Sampdoria on a permanent basis.

First joining the Bergamese side from Parma in 2009, Cigarini spent a couple of spells away from La Dea in the subsequent seven years, with stints at Napoli and Sevilla interrupting his time at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

“U.C. Sampdoria can confirm that Luca Cigarini – born in Montecchio Emilia, Reggio Emilia on 20 June 1986 – has joined the club on a permanent deal,” read a statement on the Blucerchiati’s official website on Wednesday.

Having already lost Marten de Roon this summer to Premier League side Middlesbrough, newly appointed Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini will surely be keen to reinforce his midfield before the 2016-17 season gets underway.

In all, Cigarini played 182 games for the Bergamaschi, scoring a total of 11 goals and providing 23 assists.
