AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has flown to Spain to meet Villarreal representatives in order to delay a deal for Mateo Musacchio.

In a previous meeting between the clubs, Villarreal made it clear that they value Musacchio at around €20 million, and Milan have neither backed off from negotiations nor been able to secure the necessary funds to purchase the defender.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Galliani will meet Villarreal president Fernando Roig to understand the chances of further delaying the transfer until the money is available, most likely from the sale of Rossoneri striker Carlos Bacca.

Milan have made Mateo Musacchio their top target to strengthen the defensive department after they released Alex and Philippe Mexes earlier this summer.

Musacchio has appeared in over 160 games for Villarreal since joining them in 2009 and has represented his country Argentina on three occasions.

The Diavolo are on limited funds during the current transfer window, as the imminent Chinese takeover of the club will not be completed until September.
