Roma ahead of an expected €14 million deal.

The Giallorossi have been interested in the 30-year-old for a while but recently faced some difficulties surrounding a transfer, as the Blaugrana were refusing to accept Roma’s contract terms.

Those problems have since been resolved, however, and the club’s official website announced that Vermaelen has arrived in the Italian capital to face medical tests as the Villa Stuart clinic.

Should there be no problems, the Belgian international is expected to sign a four-year contract worth potentially €3m-per-annum for him, with the view from the club’s president that the transfer will be made permanent at the end of a loan.

Vermaelen has had a season riddled with injuries, limiting him to just 10 Spanish La Liga appearances for Barcelona last year, and he hasn’t played a league game since March 12.
