Inter have inserted a €110 million foreign release clause in a new contract for captain Mauro Icardi, following a summer of uncertainty.

The Argentine attacker was linked with a whole host of moves away from the Nerazzurri during the recent transfer window, but was consistently backed by the club’s management and as a result he is still at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are now ensuring that Icardi stays part of their squad for as long as possible, with the player ready to sign a contract extension to keep him in Milan until 2021.

In addition, he will earn €4.5m per season for the next five years, and a huge €110m will have to be paid to Inter should a non-Italian club wish to sign the 23-year-old.

Icardi joined Inter in 2013, and has since scored 53 goals in 107 games.
