The 31-year-old played helped Portugal to win the European Championship in France this summer, after also helping Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid win the UEFA Champions League following a penalty-shoot out triumph over Atletico Madrid in the final.

“In 2003, Inter and Juventus wanted me and wanted to give me a chance, but my dream was to play for Manchester United and I went there,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Ronaldo went on to win the Premier League title three times for the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson, while also claiming the Champions League title in 2008, and later that year he won the prestigious Ballon D’or accolade.

Since joining Madrid in 2009 for what was then a record transfer fee of €94 million, Ronaldo has scored 261 goals in 240 appearances.
