European Under-21 Championship hosts Czech Republic defeated Serbia by a 0-4 scoreline at the Letna Stadium in Prague.

A goal from Martin Frydek and a hat-trick from Jan Kliment completed a stunning performance from the Czechs to earn them three vital points toward qualifying from their group.

Having looked positive in the opening minutes, it was the tournament hosts that took the lead. Jan Kliment continued the impressive form he’d shown in the first game by putting the Czech Republic in front, blasting in a low cross from Vaclav Kadlec.

Serbia goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic was forced into halting Kliment shortly after when his defenders fell asleep, denying the striker from sneaking it into the bottom corner. Kliment then popped the ball up for Jiri Skalak who was dashing into the area but couldn’t beat Dmitrovic.

Kadlec was next to test the Charlton Athletic shot-stopper, but his effort cannoned off the crossbar, the Serbs looking completely out of their depth in the opening minutes. The pressure told as Kliment netted once again, tapping home a rebound from Skalak’s saved effort giving the tournament hosts a deserved two goal lead.

The Serbs did manage to mount an assault on the Czech goal. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Milos Jojic ran in behind the defence to get a shot away, but Tomas Koubek was able to beat it away to safety. The Czech Republic regained their composure and went to harassing the Serbian defenders, this time Martin Frydek with the great exchange of passes with Kliment to put him through, but again Dmitrovic stuck out a foot to rescue his side before half time.

In the second half the Serbs still couldn’t respond, and after ten minutes Kliment had his hat-trick. A great ball in behind by Jakub Brabec gave Kliment the space to run at the goal, pass Dmitrovic and place it into the bottom corner. Moments later the tournament hosts had doubled their first half score-line, Skalak’s cross finding Frydek who curled it past the keeper to make it a four goal lead.

Jakub Dovalil’s players go level with Denmark on three points but will await the outcome of the Danes’ fixture against Germany later this evening. Mladen Dodic will need to rethink his tactics as his side looked inept against the tournament hosts.
