Fiorentina managed to brighten up what has been a terrible week for the club with a 1-0 win against Lecce at the Stadio Via Del Mare in Serie on Sunday.

Alessio Cerci got the only goal of the game which guarantees La Viola’s place in Serie A next season.

Lecce should have been in front early on as Leonardo Miglionico had an empty goal to head into but he could only put the ball over the bar.

Riccardo Montolivo and Manuel Pasqual had shots well saved by Benassi, before Cerci broke the deadlock, after an Olivera through ball sent him clean on goal.

Valeri Bojinov should have levelled the game just before the break, but he could only fire over from six yards after coming under pressure from the defence.

In the second period, Haris Seferovic, on-loan from Fiorentina, hit the crossbar as Lecce piled on the pressure.

But as the game wore on the home side were struggling to create any meaningful chances and could not find an equaliser.

The result now leaves Genoa needing just one point from their remaining two games to condemn Lecce to Serie B.
