Chievo drew 0-0 with AC Milan at the Stadio Bentegodi on Saturday evening in Serie A.

Both teams had a series of half-chances throughout the game but neither deserved to win in, what was, a match devoid of quality and entertainment.

Chievo got off to a good start as Milan started slowly but the Gialloblu were unable to forge many chances.

Milan came close to breaking the deadlock after an Alex free-kick led to a scramble in the area but Daniele Bonera’s first shot was deflected and the defender could not beat Albano Bizzarri after picking up on the second rebound.

Riccardo Meggiorini worried the Milan defence in the 21st minute after a smart turn on the edge of the area but he was only able to sky his shot way over the bar.

The Flying Donkeys came close in the 24st minute after Sergio Pellissier drove in from the right before Diego Lopez came out to close the striker down and parry only for the ball to ricochet off Luca Antonelli and back towards goal but he was able to recover and put the ball out for a corner that the Rossoneri defended routinely.

Both sides continued to look vaguely threatening on the counter-attack but neither were able to really test the opposition goalkeepers.

Milan came close just before the half-time whistle when Riccardo Montolivo fired a shot from out wide that found the head of Mattia Destro but he missed the target with his header from close.

Substitute Keisuke Honda almost opened the scoring for the visitors in spectacular fashion just two minutes after  after coming on for the second half but his powerful long-range effort hit the bar.

Chievo almost took the lead in the 52d minute after a poor kick from Lopez gave Pellissier a chance to drive down the left flank and his square ball hit Alex and only narrowly avoided going in for an own goal.

Milan appealed for a penalty in the 57th minute after Destro went down whilst trying to to connect with a header but the referee was not interested.

Ezequiel Schelotto tested Lopez in the 64th minute but the Spanish keeper was able to dive to his left and put the ball out for a corner.

The Rossoneri had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 65th minute when Jeremy Menez broke down the right but his square ball was well intercepted at the last moment.

Meggiorini found some space in the area moments later but Nigel De Jong did well to put in a last ditch sliding challenge just as the striker pulled the trigger.

Alberto Paloschi had a chance in the 69th minute but his shot was half-blocked on its way goalwards Lopez was there to tip over after the power was taken off his strike.

Alessio Cerci cut it from the right and fired a shot towards the near post but it was comfortably saved by Bizzarri and the game ended goalless as it always seemed it would.
