Bologna were held to a 0-0 draw by Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

It was a close match where Genoa controlled the game in the middle of the field with close sharp passing. However Bologna counter attacking allowed the Rossoblu to have most of the clear chances throughout the game.

The away side got their first opportunity in the opening five minutes as Rolando Bianchi decided to test goalkeeper Matia Perin from long range, but in the end it was a comfortable save for the youngster.

Genoa did not hesitated to respond and only three minutes later Alberto Gilardino used his head to flick the ball to Giuseppe Sculli, but the former Lazio man saw his effort go wide of the far left hand post. Then just a minute later Giovanni Marchese would hang a ball from a free-kick in the middle of the penalty area but this time it was Nicolas Burdisso whose header went wide to the right of the goal.

It wasn’t until just before the half-hour mark that Lazaros Christodoulopoulos got involved in the match, as long shot from the outside of the area went high and wide, much to the frustration of the visiting fans.

With half-time approaching Luca Antonelli’s low strike from the inside left of the area was brilliantly palmed away by goalkeeper Gianluca Curci.

The second half started with a quick chance from Bologna’s Christodoulopoulos, with his shot from inside the penalty box, stopped by Perin.

A period of scrappy play ensued with no team able to gain a foothold in the match and as a result chances became few and far between.

Then, midway through the half György Garics played an amazing pass into the penalty area from the right that landed perfectly on Panagiotis Kone’s right foot, but once again the shot went a little too wide.

Once again Bologna had a scoring opportunity just a couple of minutes later, this time a ball from a free-kick was headed against the crossbar by Rolando Bianchi as Bologna searched for an opening.

Erik Friberg then had a great chance to put Davide Ballardini’s men in front as he was sent clear on goal, but the Swede lashed the ball high over Perin’s goal.

Bologna were creating the better chances and Daniele Paponi, after a brilliant pass from the Bologna forward Bianchi, went one-on-one against goalkeeper Perin. However, the Genoa goalkeeper made a brave save to deny the striker.
