Bianchi – Bologna

Hellas Verona drew 0-0 with Bologna at the Bentegodi on Sunday afternoon in Serie A in a game lacking any real action.

The only real clear cut chance of the game came Bologna’s way when Rolando Bianchi missed a second half penalty and his strike partner Jonathan Cristaldo saw red late for two foolish yellow cards.

The first half was admittedly extremely low on incident in a game that will not be in the running for match of the season come the FIF end of year awards.

It was Bologna who had the best of the early going as first Panagiotis Kone blasted one high and wide before Lazaros Christodoulopoulos brought a smart save out of Rafael after skipping past a tackle and firing one in at goal.

Bosko Jankovic brought the first save out of Gianluca Curci at the other end of the field when he met a cross with a deft header but the ‘keeper kept it out.

Lazaros was again denied by Rafael and then Kone curled one just past the post before he unfortunately left the field with injury to be replaced by Argentine ace Jonathan Cristaldo.

That was pretty much that from a tame first half but the second sparked into life immediately when Fabrizio Cacciatore was penalised for a foul in the area much to the ire of the Veronese faithful, giving Bianchi the perfect chance to endear himself to the Bologna support after a less than stellar first seven months at the club.

However, he was denied that chance from the spot by Rafael for a miss that could have serious permutations in their hopes for survival.

Minutes later, the Hellas fans were praising their star goalkeeper again after he produced a very good stop to keep out a Gyorgy Garics fizzer. Cristaldo missed two good chances, first firing wide from 25 yards and then missing a promising chance for a rebound.

Romulo sent one the wrong side of the post and then Ibson sent the ball on a similar path for the Felsinei as the game looked to be petering towards a stalemate that suited neither for different reasons.

Cristaldo, despite coming off the bench earlier, then was sent for an early shower after picking up a needless second yellow card for an elbow following one shortly before for dissent.
