Palermo drew 0-0 with Bologna at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Sunday afternoon.

The first-half was void of attacking quality with both sides only able to create chances from range. The second-half improved in terms of entertainment value, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

The match begun in a scrappy fashion, with neither side really able to get any attacking momentum until the 25th minute.

Mattia Destro received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, turned his defender and curled a shot goalwards, however, he was denied by a smart save from Josip Posavec.

It took until first-half stoppage time for the Rosanero to create their first chance. A free-kick was cleared straight to Enzo Maresca, but the Italian’s effort was tame and easily saved.

A minute after the interval Emanuele Giaccherini played a masterful through ball to Destro, to put the Italian one on one with Posavec, but once again the Croatian denied the former Roma hitman with a superb save with his feet.

Ten minutes later Palermo struck back. Giuseppe Pezzella pulled a low cross back Franco Vazquez at the edge of the penalty area, yet Antonio Mirante was at full stretch to stop his side conceding.

Pezzella was causing the Bologna defence all sorts of problems with his crosses, but this time it was Vazquez’s poor finishing from inside the six-yard-box that spared the Rossoblu’s blushes, as the Italian poked the chance wide.

Towards the end of the match Bologna increased the pressure. Godfred Donsah drove forward on the right-wing and fired a powerful shot, which Posavec had to watch carefully to stop it beating him at his near-post.

The result leaves Palermo in the relegation mire in 17th place, whereas Bologna stay ninth in the table.
