Perugia defeated Carpi 2-0 at the Stadio Renato Curi on Friday night in Serie B, to almost secure their spot in the play-offs.

Early goals from Matteo Ardemagni and Diego Falcinelli sealed the win for the hosts and leave them five points clear of Avellino who are just outside the play-off positions.

It took the Grifoni just seven minutes to open the scoring, and what a well worked goal it was. Valerio Verre went on a driving run and laid it to Marco Fossati, who fed Ardemagni first time and the striker made no mistake from close range.

They doubled their lead just six minutes later and this time it was Falcinelli. A free-kick was whipped in and the loose ball fell to the striker who took one touch before firing past Gabriel.

The visitors nearly pulled one back moments later, as Kevin Lasagna tried his luck with a free-kick but dragged his effort wide.

Lasagna had another chance before the break as he touched the ball down expertly and on the swivel hit his shot inches wide.

Midway through the second-half, Carpi had two chances to get a foothold in this game. Firstly Roberto Inglese ran into the box but then over-ran his last touch and was thwarted by the keeper and then Lasagna blazed wide after he was slipped through.

Carpi were desperately trying to get back into the game but didn’t create enough clear-cut chances to get that goal.

The game ended there with a comfortable 2-0 win which leaves them in 5th place. Carpi won’t be bothered about the result here after already being crowned champions.
