Carpi defeated Spezia 2-1 at the Stadio Alberto Picco on Monday night in Serie B.

An absolute stunning volley from Raffaele Bianco on the half-time whistle and a strike from Fabio Concas put the away side two up before Andrea Catellani scored a late spot kick consolation.

Spezia were in control in the first half and had the first chance of the game when Matteo Ardemagni had a speculative effort from outside the box which was easily saved by Gabriel in the Carpi goal.

A few minutes later the home side really should have taken the lead. Following an error from Gabriel, Josip Brezovec had the goal at his mercy from ten yards out but he blazed his shot over the bar.

Then with their first shot of the match the Biancorossi took the lead through Bianco. The midfielder controlled the ball, let it bounce then fired an unstoppable volley from 30 yards which looped over Leandro Chichizola in the Spezia goal.

On the hour mark Carpi doubled their lead and it was Concas this time. A miss-kick from a Spezia defender allowed Jerry Mbakogu to pick out Concas who fired into the top of the net from inside the box.

Just moments later the Aquilotti nearly pulled one back as Osarimen Ebagua got in the end of a long pass into the box but volleyed over the bar.

The away side nearly made it three when Antonio Di Gaudio was played in, but on the stretch he could only turn his effort wide of the post.

In the 90th minute Spezia were handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty and Catellani stroked home to reduce the scoreline to 2-1.

Carpi then went straight up the other end and Antonio Di Gaudio got the better of his marker and struck the ball off the face of the post.

The Aquilotti could not get an equaliser and the game finished 2-1 to Carpi who now move up to second place behind Perugia but having played an extra game.
