Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has labelled Jose Mourinho “pathetic” and “insecure” after the Real Madrid manager’s controversial post-match comments following his side’s first leg semi-final defeat in the Champions League at the hands of free bet favourites Barcelona earlier this month.

Mourinho claimed in an astonishing attack that Barcelona had a “power” over referee’s that made them award favourable decisions, and suggested Barca boss Pep Guardiola should be “ashamed” after he won the Champions League in 2009 having controversially beaten Chelsea in the semi-finals.

The 48-year-old was aggrieved after seeing midfielder Pepe sent off during the 1st leg – the fourth Real Madrid player to be sent off against Barcelona in as many games at that point.

The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager’s after the game at the Bernabeu landed him in hot water with UEFA, who eventually suspended him for five games.

Now Allegri, who guided Milan to the Scudetto in his first season in charge – Milan’s first title since 2004, has given his opinion of the Portuguese boss in an interview with Italian TV show Le Lene.

When asked what he thought about his Mourinho, he replied: “Every now and then he is pathetic. He continuously repeats the same things and it becomes banal. I think he is very talented but his arrogance hides insecurity.”

Mourinho enjoyed a successful spell in Italy before Allegri took charge of the Rossoneri, winning successive Serie A titles and the Champions League with Internazionale in his two years with the club.

But despite his success, the Portuguese has also come in for criticism elsewhere from fellow managers, with Turkey manager Guus Hiddink calling for him to apologise for his behaviour following the Barca tie.

Mourinho has also had public spats with his successor at Inter Milan Rafa Benitez , and former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri.

Allegri has been linked by free bets to the vacant managerial position at Chelsea after former AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by the London club just twelve months after winnign the double.
