After Milan secured the title on Saturday evening with a draw against Roma, the celebrations began with Gennaro Gattuso leading the chorus of ‘Leonardo Uomo Di Merda’ which literally means ‘Leonardo Man of Shit’, with the Milan ultras.

As you can imagine former Milan coach and current Inter boss Leonardo has hit back at the incident, asking for a formal explanation from the Rossoneri.

“The day I decided to leave Milan, Gattuso said to me that I had at least been coherent in my choice,” Leonardo told reporters.

“But today I read in lots of papers that he still wants to give his own version of events.

“I would very much like to know what he has to say, since neither on the phone nor in person has that ever been possible.

“Furthermore, I would like to know what Milan’s official position is on this matter.”

However, Gattuso has defended himself after another black mark on an already turbulent season for the midfielder.

“I always take responsibility for myself,” he told La Repubblica.

“All this fuss for a prank seems exaggerated. If I could go back in time, given all the mess it has caused, I wouldn’t do it again.

“I exaggerated and I realise it was not a good example to set for the kids.

“But it’s not right to forget the context.

“The fans in the Curva sang many other songs, at least nine, and you don’t hear educational chants at the stadium. But let me be clear, I would jump on the railings to sing with them again.

“Those fans have followed us around Italy, facing so many expenses and journeys. The least we could do was thank them.

“There are all sorts of people among the Ultras. To demonize them would be hypocrisy.”
