Wenger has come under fire in recent weeks, with the news that a number of his star players are likely to leave the Emirates stadium this summer.
In order to counter such reports, Fanatix has revealed that the French tactician has his sights set on Inter defender Lucio, to help bolster the club’s defensive ranks next season.
Reports of the shock move have emerged following comments made by the Nerazzurri director Marco Branca, who revealed the player and club were failing to reach an agreement over a new contract.
“There is a problem over the length of Lucio’s contract in the renegotiations,” Branca told Sky Italia.
The Brazilian World Cup winner of 2002 would be an exceptional addition to Wenger’s squad, and whilst the move is unlikely, persisting rumours should keep Gunners’ fans happy for the time being.
Wenger has also been linked with a move for Brazilian born Italian international Thiago Motta by English newspaper The Daily Mail, who claim that Arsenal will target the midfielder after missing out on Ricky Alvarez.
