AC Milan have set their sights on acquiring Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo this summer, to fill the void left by new Juventus signing Andrea Pirlo in the centre of midfield.
Whilst the Rossoneri have been linked to Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas and Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger, Montolivo is the most viable option at this point in time.
According to the latest reports from La Nazione, the Italian champions are likely to offer €6 million, plus half of the rights to their young attacking starlet Alberto Paloschi.
Milan had previously attempted to include Antonio Cassano in that deal, however La Viola were unable to meet his hefty wage demands.
Montolivo is contracted in Florence until 2012, and so the Tuscan-based outfit will be keen to either agree a new contract with the player, in order to avoid losing him for free in 12 months time, or cash in on him whilst they still can.
