New Inter signing Andrea Poli has admitted his move from Sampdoria came as a bit of a surprise.

The former Blucerchiati midfielder is one of Italian football’s rising stars and following Samp’s relegation to Serie B, it was only a matter of time before he was snapped up.

“It was all a bit unexpected, but I’m over the moon about it. It’s a terrific opportunity for me and a dream come true,” he told the press.

“I’ll be taking up the challenge with determination and will be giving it everything I can. I have come to a really great club and it’s an honour for me.

“I’ll do all in my power to deserve this Inter shirt.”

Poli joined Inter on a season-long loan, with the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season.

“I’d like to thank all of the fans, I promise them I’ll do my best here.

“I can’t wait to meet up with my new teammates and to start working with them and with my new Coach.

“He’s a terrific coach [Gian Piero Gasperini] and he created quite a few problems for us [Sampdoria] when he was in Genoa.

“I’m really pleased he’ll be training me and I can’t wait to meet him for the first session.”
