Recent Genoa signing Sebastien Frey has urged former Fiorentina teammate Alberto Gilardino to join him at the club.

The goalkeeper joined the Grifone after being told he was surplus to requirements at the Stadio Franchi and now want to be reunited with the Italian international at the Marassi.

“Alberto is a friend, I love him and if he asks me about Genoa then I would tell him they are the right solution,” Frey told Il Secolo XIX.

“If he can choose Genoa then he wouldn’t be making a mistake. However, it doesn’t depend on me, the club makes the decisions.”

With regards his own situation in Florence he alludes to contract issues being the reason for his departure.

“They decided that their important contracts had become a problem,” he continued.

“I’m just surprised with the way they handled the situation. All they had to do was sit me down and talk to me about it.

“Genoa? Years ago there was a project to get Fiorentina into the Champions League, I believe we can do the same here.

“This will be my last club, also because of the contract which I have been given. I want to give a lot, as a man and a player. I want to leave a mark.”
