Alberto Malesani cannot wait to make his debut in the Genoa dugout tonight in the Coppa Italia.

The former Bologna coach is facing Nocerina in the third round of the competition at 6pm CET this evening.

“I can’t wait to get out there for my first game as a Genoa boss at Marassi. Fantastic!” Malesani told reporters.

“I have only one expectation and that is to qualify for the next round! I cannot ask for the moon, as we’re still in full pre-season mode and getting to know each other, but we still want to go through.

“The Coppa Italia was the launching pad for many teams. Don’t forget Roberto Mancini’s Inter started the winning streak from there, as this competition gets you accustomed to fighting for a trophy.

“I watched Nocerino a lot last season, as in my view they played the best football in Lega Pro,” continued Malesani.

“However, we are Genoa, so must impose our tempo on the game and ensure the weight of our history and splendid stadium pressure our opponents every time.”
