New Fiorentina midfielder Houssine Kharja has advised Alberto Gilardino to not join Genoa this summer.

Gilardino is thought to be on the verge of a switch to the Marassi, but his new teammate has warned him that the Grifone are unlikely to be competitive this season.

“I do not miss anything about Genoa. Compared to the Viola and Inter, that club is less important,” Kharja told the press.

“I started well, but then I suffered a knee injury which made playing more complicated.”

“If a player has ambitions for something better, then he cannot think of Genoa, as they are not competitive.”

“Usually a player aspires to rise higher and higher, but if I were him, I would stay [at Fiorentina].

“There is something very wrong about the whole idea, although obviously the decision is up to him.”

The 28-year-old spent the end of last season on loan at Inter and has joined Fiorentina for an undisclosed amount.
