The final verdicts at the Calciopoli trial have arrived with Luciano Moggi being sentenced to five years and four months in prison.

At 8pm local time the Judge Teresa Casoria read the verdict which included 16 convictions and eight acquittals.

The former Juventus sporting director was given five years and four months for criminal conspiracy, thought due to Italian laws will not spend any time in prison.

The former referee designator Paolo Bergamo was sentenced to three years and eight months.

Pierluigi Pairetto was given one year and 11 months, while Fiorentina owners Diego and Andrea Della Valle and Lazio President Claudio Lotito were sentenced to one year and three months, with Leandro Meani given one year.

Juventus had their request for damages rejected by the Tribunal.

The explanation for the rulings will be released in 90 days, but Moggi’s lawyers have already announced they will appeal the decision.

As an Inter fan I should probably be feeling rather smug, but in truth I just wish the whole saga would come to an end. More appeals and counter-accusations on the way I fear- not good for the image of Calcio worldwide.
    Forza Inter!!

  2. I agree it’s time Juventus moved on and stopped whinging about the past! You got caught just stop trying to shift the blame! Yes I am smug about this verdict he got exactly what was coming to him.

Typical of Italy – nothing ever really sorted and no doubt this will come back to haunt calcio as another appeal is launched. No matter who you are a fan of this is really starting to grate. Enough already!
