Luciano Moggi Sentenced To Five Years In Calciopoli Trial

The final verdicts at the Calciopoli trial have arrived with Luciano Moggi being sentenced to five years and four months in prison.

At 8pm local time the Judge Teresa Casoria read the verdict which included 16 convictions and eight acquittals.

The former Juventus sporting director was given five years and four months for criminal conspiracy, thought due to Italian laws will not spend any time in prison.

The former referee designator Paolo Bergamo was sentenced to three years and eight months.

Pierluigi Pairetto was given one year and 11 months, while Fiorentina owners Diego and Andrea Della Valle and Lazio President Claudio Lotito were sentenced to one year and three months, with Leandro Meani given one year.

Juventus had their request for damages rejected by the Tribunal.

The explanation for the rulings will be released in 90 days, but Moggi’s lawyers have already announced they will appeal the decision.
