It’s no secret that after the heart surgery of Antonio Cassano, Milan have been looking around for a new striker to replace Fantantonio. One player who has been linked with the club and would be quite eager to join them, is Catania striker Maxi Lopez, formerly of Barcelona.

The Argentinean spoke to Il Corriere dello Sport about the situation.

“I don’t play as much as I’d want to, but I respect the coach’s choices,” he said. “Angry or disappointed? Neither of the two. I am grateful to Catania for what they’ve given me and the people who have always been close to me. As long as I’m here I will always give the maximum.”

On the links with Milan, Lopez said: “It’s a great joy for me, as someone who grew up in Buenos Aires, watching Serie A and admiring Milan. If Milan are interested and Catania are available I feel ready to take advantage of the opportunity.

“I like pressure, in these circumstances you see the true champions. I can do well, I have reached my full maturity as a footballer, I feel I can go for it.”

Maxi Lopez won the Champions League in 2006 with Barcelona, albeit as a fringe player, and he would like to help Zlatan Ibrahimovic win his first major European trophy at Milan.

“If I come to Milan I’ll do everything to help him win the Champions League, he deserves it,” he continued.

“Milan are among the best teams in the world along with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.”
