Inter finally got a convincing victory today, beating Fiorentina 2-0 at San Siro. Coach Claudio Ranieri was satisfied with his team’s performance.

“Is this match a new start for us? Let’s not say that, we’ve already said it many times,” he said to Sky Sport, “it was a very good performance, we showed we can pick ourselves up after falling down.”

The Nerazzurri were coming off two straight home defeats, to Udinese and CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

“Our fans were magnificent and helped the team play well,” he continued. “Also in defence we did well and if I’m not mistaken Fiorentina first shot on goal in the 70th minute.

“Maicon? He’s a player who gives the team security, he makes his presence felt. He’s still not at his best and I told him not to go forward too much to avoid a fallback.”

On Giampaolo Pazzini’s opening goal, the coach said: “It was important that he scored, I was sorry to take our [Diego] Milito, he had a knock to his ankle, otherwise I would have left him on the pitch, because he also needs to score again.

“I’m happy we did not concede a goal. I have a team of players who have won a lot and they don’t want to be considered ‘finished’. I think our fans are happy with this reaction.”
