Although he didn’t score in last weekend’s 3-2 win against Udinese, new Genoa striker Alberto Gilardino still had a good debut at the Stadio Marassi, serving Rodrigo Palacio for the winning goal.

The former Fiorentina man commented on the welcome he received by the fans in the stadium.

“More than a stadium it was like a cauldron, I couldn’t wait to play there and finally I did,” he said to Genoa’s official website. “I thank the fans for the warmth they showed, they gave a really nice welcome.”

Continuing on the match against Udinese, Gilardino said: “I’m happy I made myself available to my team mates and to [Palacio] in particular, there is a good understanding between us.

“In any case, let’s keep thinking about the collective: it was a fundamental victory after the misstep at Cagliari, it has given us a good confidence boost.”
