Roma played perhaps their best match so far under coach Luis Enrique on Saturday, brushing aside Cesena 5-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

“This is the kind of football I think every coach likes to see, the players like it too and it gives more chances to win games,” he said to Sky Sport after the game. “The match seemed easy because we were almost perfect. For me Cesena are a very good team who have important qualities. We played at a very high level.”

On captain Francesco Totti, who scored another brace today, the coach said: “His numbers speak for themselves, they are numbers of a great champion. He still wants to be a reference point for this team. But we are not celebrating because we play again on Tuesday. When things get easier it’s obvious that a player like him will score more regularly.”

Things have certainly changed for Luis Enrique after being allegedly on the brink of a sacking following the 3-0 loss to Fiorentina.

“What’s changed? That’s a one million euro question,” he commented. ”It’s not easy for a foreign coach who doesn’t speak the language well to make his players understand what kind of football he wants to see. However, the team followed my orders from the first day. We always work to try and find our identity.”
