The first half of the season has drawn to a close, and the second half is only about a day away.

Some fans have been very pleased with their teams performance, while others hope that their teams can find the edge they need in the new year.

There have been no shortage of surprises so far, and it has been an entertaining first half to the season. To close out 2011 lets take a look at the top ten players for the first half of the 2011/2012 season.

10. Stevan Jovetic (Fiorentina) – Although he has just recently returned to the team his impact has been enormous. He has already scored 7 goals for Fiorentina, which is something they desperately need right now.

9. Edinson Cavani (Napoli) – Napoli shocked many fans with their trip to the round of sixteen in the Champions League. Cavani’s efforts can not be denied as he helped his team climb back up the table and through the Champions League group stages.

8. Daniele De Rossi (Roma) – Whether he stays or leaves Roma is still to be determined. One thing for sure is that De Rossi is back in form and has played every match so far for the club, and has proved to be a valuable midfielder and defender.

7. Kevin Prince Boateng (Milan) – The man almost single handedly helped Milan win in what looked to be a shameful defeat against Lecce early in the season. Also, his work rate is second to none making him one of the best players for Milan.

6. Miroslav Klose (Lazio) – Many had written him off after leaving Bayern Munich, but Klose chose to join the capitol side to prove he still has goals left to score. Some say that his transfer has been the most successful of the season.

5. Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) – Simply put, with out Buffon between the sticks Juve would have lost a couple of games by now. His save against Totti’s penalty kick proved he still has the skill and experience to play in the top flight and for the national team.

4. Samir Handanovic (Udinese) – At this moment he is the best goalkeeper in Serie A, with only 9 goals conceded this season and 10 clean sheets. He is a strikers worst nightmare right now.

3. German Denis (Atalanta) – He really was the striker that no one wanted, but Atalanta saw something else in him. Right now he sits at the top of the goal scorers list with 12 to his name.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Milan) – He sometimes makes it look easy, and other times damn near impossible. So far his 11 goals have helped Milan get level on points with Juventus for the top spot.

1. Antonio Di Natale (Udinese) – There seems to be no slowing down for Di Natale. He was the top goal scorer for several weeks this season, and he is a true leader for the club who are only two points behind Juve and Milan.

This was a hard list to make, but I thought that the first week of January was even more difficult. There were some great games and I thought it was one of the best weeks for the league as a whole.
