On the day of the Scudetto clash between Milan and Juventus, former Rossoneri legend Paolo Maldini spoke about the possibility of a future return to the club.
“I don’t think I will return to Milan,” he said to Il Corriere della Sera. “I am seen as a problem because I am an independent mind. The club’s choices are legitimate, but let’s avoid hypocrisy: they say ‘he’s one of us, he’ll always be welcome’, but the reality is different: the conditions aren’t there for me to return.”
On his recent visit to Paris and tonight’s big match, Maldini said: “I went to visit Leonardo, but I don’t want to coach or anything. Going abroad, you always realise how little they know about defending…
“Without [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic it will be a fast Milan, who will counterattack. The Swede’s ban? Sometimes I don’t understand the sporting justice. They take political decisions: why three matches this time and just two last year? [Salvatore] Aronica did something similar but he wasn’t punished. I agree with Milan’s protest.”
On Juventus, he said: “They need tranquillity, complaining about every half penalty not given is not something a great club would do. What’s needed to beat them? Rhythm, they have a lot of enthusiasm, and a player like [Andrea] Pirlo.
“In Milan’s place I would have sold him only to a foreign team, at Chelsea, like [Carlo] Ancelotti said. A decisive match tonight? Perhaps, more than anything for the psychological aspect.”
