Piermario Morosini’s girlfriend has written an open letter thanking everyone for their support after his tragic death last weekend.
The 25-year-old collapsed and died during Livorno’s Serie B game against Pescara on Saturday.
His girlfriend Anna wrote:
“Mario adored playing in the rain, as he said the ball needed special treatment. He was playing in the rain when he died.
“I am certain he was happy. The sport and that ball gave meaning to his life. Today this sun and this warm wind caress my face and all the faces of his dearest friends and family.
“We thank everyone for being close to us.”
Morosini’s funeral will be held on Thursday.
