Roma director Franco Baldini has today confirmed what everyone already seemed to know.  Coach Luis Enrique will leave the club at the end of the season after one year in charge.

The former Barca B coach took the reins at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer of 2011, but has had numerous struggles in trying to implement his philosophy on the players and supporters.

With one match left to play, away to Cesena, the Giallorossi are seventh in the table and have nearly lost as many games as they have won.

Luis Enrique informed his players on Thursday that he will be leaving the club this summer, and now Roma have now admitted that the 41 year-old is on his way out.

“We have known for some time that he is leaving. Luis Enrique wanted to inform the players first, though,” Baldini stated to Sky Italia.

“We had a long talk with him after the match against Fiorentina [on April 25], and he then told us of his intention to leave.

“We believe that he has done a good job and that is why we wanted to give him all the time he needed to make a decision.”

FormerChelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has emerged in recent weeks as the front runner to take over but so far he has remained tight-lipped on where he will end up next.
