Roma have named James Pallotta as the new president of the club after the resignation of Thomas Di Benedetto.

While the move is not entirely unexpected as fans and media in the capital have speculated about such a switch for much of the summer, the new man is delighted to be in charge.

Pallotta said: “It is a tremendous honour to be the president of Roma and there is no more special club in the world.

“I have accepted the responsibility with great humility and determination to build the club to a championship-calibre organisation in every aspect.”

Di Benedetto though will not leave the club and will remain among the club hierarchy but stepped down after leading the Giallorossi to a position where he feels someone else should take the next step.

He said: “I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all Roma fans and it is time for fresh leadership to take the club to the next level but I look forward to remaining a part of the Roma family in the years ahead.”
