Today’s highlights…

Douglas Maicon could still be tempted away from Inter before the end of the mercato with his agent hinting at a possible move to Real Madrid, Manchester City or Chelsea.

Samuele Longo has left to join Espanyol on loan for the season while the club are now being linked with former Milan striker Alberto Gilardino.

Talks are ongoing between Juventus and Athletic Bilbao over  a deal for Fernando Llorente although Oscar Cardozo could be open to a move to Turin should they fall through and they have also renewed their interest in signing Sampdoria midfielder Andrea Poli.

Gigi Buffon has also rubbished claims contract talks between himself and the club have stalled and said that they will restart in time.

One player who has agreed a new contract is Napoli’s Edinson Cavani who has reportedly agreed terms on a much improved deal which, unfortunately for Partenopei fans, also includes a €55m buy-out clause.

The San Paolo outfit also hope to complete the signing of Genoa’s Giandomenico Mesto this week.

AC Milan have reportedly met with Roma officials today and have inquired about the possibility of bringing Bojan Krkic on loan for the coming campaign although M’Baye Niang is close to joining from Caen.

Adriano Galliani has admitted that the Rossoneri will only be signing Kaka from Real Madrid if the La Liga champions will relent and loan the player to the San Siro side.

Michael Ciani has been confirmed as a Lazio player after joining the Biancocelesti as he arrives from Bordeaux for a fee in the region of €4m on a four-year deal and will be presented at the Formello centre today.

One player leaving the club is Sergio Floccari who is on the verge of a move to Bologna whose star Gaston Ramirez is on his way out after all as Southampton have managed to agree a deal with the Rossoblu.

Maarten Stekelenburg looks unlikely to follow the Uruguayan to the Premier League though after Roma insisted the Dutch international will not be sold this week.

Genoa are today meeting with Fiorentina to discuss a deal with Juan Manuel Vargas who they have been admiring for much of the summer and hope to do a deal for this week.

He is not the only player who the Viola hope to get rid of from their large squad with Andrea Lazzari close to a move to Udinese although Chievo have not given up hope of signing him while Daniele Prade is openly looking for buyers for Romulo.

Torino hope to wrap up a deal for John Guidetti of Manchester City this week but face stiff competition for his signature.

Finally, Sampdoria are close to signing Enzo Maresca from Malaga and he will undergo a medical with the Blucerchiati today.
