AC Milan welcomed Atalanta to the San Siro on Saturday evening but it was the visitors who left the happier as a Luca Cigarini strike was enough to earn La Dea the victory.

Atalanta came closest in the first half to opening the scoring as German Denis made a surging run deep into Milan territory only to see his attempt rattle the woodwork.

Milan responded moments later through Stephan El Shaarawy but Andrea Consigli was on hand to keep the scores level.  The half ended goalless.

Atalanta deservedly broke the deadlock in the 64th minute as Cigarini curled his effort into the corner of Christian Abbiati’s net after the midfielder latched onto some good hold up play from Denis.

La Dea had the opportunity to put the game to bed however Maximiliano Moralez spurned his chance and blasted over the Rossoneri bar. Milan pressed to find an equaliser but could not break the stern Atalanta defence who held out to earn all three points.
