Fiorentina striker Mounir El Hamdaoui has made it clear that the Viola have ambitions of getting back into Europe.

The former Ajax forward spoke about his team’s motivations to play in the Champions League, after finishing a disappointing 13th last season.

“The objective is to bring Fiorentina back to Europe,” he told Brivido Sportivo.

“First of all, we are hoping for the Europe League.  Now we are playing some good football, and with a bit of luck and consistency playing at this level, we can take away a lot of satisfaction.

“The Champions League is a dream.  We want it just as bad as our fans do.  I came to Fiorentina with the objective to play in the Champions League because I believe Fiorentina is a top club.”

The striker also took some time to speak about manager Vincenzo Montello, and the job he’s done with the squad.

“Montello is a fantastic coach, but he is also a great person off the pitch.

“I played many games against Italian squads in the Europa League and Champions League, and I knew well what things to expect when I came to play here.

“I can say that I’m very happy to have chosen Fiorentina because here you work hard, and you play some good football.

“With Jovetic, for how little we have played together in official games, it seems to be going very well.

“In my career I have played with some top players like Suarez, Robbie Keane, Mido, Kanoute, Defoe, and many others.  I don’t think Jovetic is the best of all of these, at least not yet.”

The Moroccan international left Ajax for the Viola, penning a three year deal in July 2012.
