Former Bari defender Andrea Masiello has been hit with a 22 month suspended prison sentence after admitting to scoring a deliberate own goal.

Th2 26-year-old put the ball into his own net during a Serie A clash in May 2011 against Lecce in a game that his side lost 2-0.

Thanks to that win and own goal, Lecce avoided relegation that season while Bari were already resigned to the drop.

His friends Gianni Carella and Fabio Giacobbe have each bargained for a year and five months by also co-operating with the authorities.

As well as the game against Lecce, Bari were also being investigated by the court for sporting fraud over games against Palermo, Sampdoria and Bologna.
