Napoli are Serie A’s newest club to face allegations of match fixing as the Italian Football Federation launches its next stage of an ongoing betting probe.

Former Partenopei goalkeeper Matteo Gianello has been accused of conspiring to fix the result of a match with Sampdoria in Genoa in 2010.

Gianello purportedly attempted to enlist the assistance of Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava, who rejected their teammate’s advances, but the two defenders could be charged regardless for failing to report the incident.

Cannavaro and Grava may face charges similar to those that have seen Juventus manager Antonio Conte suspended, in which the Scudetto-winning coach was found to have failed to report knowledge of a fix in process while with Siena.

Napoli  have been deferred to the disciplinary commission along with current players Cannavaro and Grava, and could face fines and points penalties as a result of being the club involved.
