Fiorentina beat Atalanta 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Serie A.

Goals for Fiorentina from Gonzalo Rodriguez, Two from Alberto Aquilani and another from Luca Toni cancelled out Giacomo Bonaventura’s effort for Atalanta, who also had Luca Cigarini sent off.

Toni had a weak effort saved by Andrea Consigli, but five minutes later Fiorentina took the lead when a Manuel Pasqual free kick from the left found Gonzalo Rodriguez at the back post, and his effort cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar.

German Denis then wasted three chances for Atalanta, the first was a header from a Cigarini corner, the second was a deflected shot over the bar, the final one was a weak lob that went wide of the goal.

But just past the half hour Bonaventura equalised for Atalanta as he bundled home from close range.  A mad last three minutes of the first half saw Fiorentina take the lead thanks to a fantastic free kick by Alberto Aquilani.

Atalanta then were reduced to ten men when Cigarini was sent off for a challenge on Juan Cuadrado, he was the last man and had to go. Then right on half time Fiorentina added a third and it was Aquilani again with the goal as he poked home from close range from yet another set piece.

Four minutes into the second half, Fiorentina made it 4-1 when an Aquilani cross was powerfully headed past Consigli by Toni.

Mounir El Hamdaoui who came on for Toni had a brilliant mazy run but his effort from just inside of the area flew over the bar. Adem Ljajic also fired over the bar after Juan Cuadrado played it square to him from the right.

Matias Fernandez fired over from outside of the penalty area and Ljajic then fired a curling effort just over the bar.

Fiorentina also had a goal disallowed when an El Hamdaoui effort was ruled out for offside.
