Fiorentina bagged all three points against Genoa at the Stadio Ferraris on Thursday night in a game that showcased some attractive passing and perhaps the best assist of the season by Gonzalo Rodriguez.

The away side looked dangerous in the early stages and unsurprisingly took the lead when Gonzalo Rodriguez hoofed an astonishing pass from deep within his own half to the path of Manuel Pasqual who chipped the ball over Sebastian Frey in the 15th minute.

Ciro Immobile picked up a cross and slotted it past Emiliano Viviano in the 25th minute but the goal did not stand as the former Pescara man was yellow carded for handling the ball while trying to control it.

The game continued to enthrall as Ciro Immobile lead the Rossoblu’s efforts to equalise while the Viola continued with their display of swift, intricate passing but lacked that final incision to double their lead as the first half came to a close.

The Viola started the second half in the same fiery manner as Adem Ljajic picked up a cross from Stevan Jovetic following a brilliant run into the box but Sebastian Frey miraciously punched the ball twice to stop it from crossing the goal line.

The Gigliati petered out in the second half but the home side’s lack of creativity prevented them from threatening the opposing backline.

Besides Immobile and Cristobal Jorquera, the rest of the Rossoblu side failed to make any impression.

However, the second half was not as eventful as the first and Fiorentina held on to win their first away game of the seson.
