Genoa have admitted they are interested in signing Francelino Matuzalem from Lazio in the January transfer window, but have denied that Alexander Merkel would be heading in the opposite direction as part of a swap deal.
Grifone president Enrico Preziosi said to Citta Celeste: “It’s true. Matuzelam is a player of interest to us.”
“However, we are not in talks with Lazio regarding a swap deal.
“Merkel, at this moment in time, is a player who is not available for transfer. We’ll have to see whether that changes in future.”
Matuzalem, 32, hasn’t featured at all for Lazio this season and is looking for a new club.
Merkel was signed outright from AC Milan in the summer, the Rossoneri previously had co-ownership of the young midfielder.
The 20 year old has scored one goal in five league appearences for the Marassi outfit this season.
