Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has admitted that there are still openings available in his squad, specifically referencing Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

The keeper made headlines at the weekend after his heroics in front of the net helped the Biancocelesti to frustrate the Italian champions Juventus, and hold them to a 0-0 draw at the Juventus Stadium.

“He is a goalkeeper who we are keeping an eye on,” Prandelli told ANSA.

“I can assure you that he was never excluded from the squad.

“However, at the moment we have four important goalkeepers, Gianluigi Buffon, Salvatore Sirigu, Morgan De Sanctis, and Emiliano Viviano.

“I cannot say what the hierarchy will be in the future, and we will take everyone into consideration.

“We will see what choices have been made.”

Marchetti has been capped by the international team eight times.  His last win came in the 2010 World Cup against Slovakia, where Italy were victorious 3-2.
