Pescara still have faith in Stroppa despite heavy defeat

Although losing 6-1 Saturday night at the hands of Juventus, Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani insisted that manager Giovanni Stroppa will hold onto his job.

“Stroppa is and remains the manager of Pescara. How many more times do I have to say this?” he said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I prefer to lose like this than to watch a team that doesn’t create any scoring opportunities at all.”

A surprising 2-0 win over Parma last week purportedly saved Stroppa from the sack, however the team was unable to cope against a Juventus side looking to bounce back from its 3-1 defeat to Inter last Saturday, which ended the Bianconeri’s 49 match unbeaten run.

Pescara looked to briefly be back in the match when an Emanuel Cascione header cut Juve’s lead to 2-1 25 minutes in. Juventus responded by scoring four unanswered goals courtesy of Kwadwo Asamoah, Sebastian Giovinco, and Fabio Quagliarella, who ended up with his first hat-trick for the club.

Sebastiani also explained that Pescara’s next match against Siena is not a referendum on Stroppa’s job.

“Stroppa is not at risk. If he loses against Siena? This is not a conversation to be having right now.”

The Delfini have won only once in their previous six matches, and are currently two points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
